Below you will find information on the study course of the one-year master's programme Biology International, an overview of all module descriptions and the current examination regulations. In contrast to the two-year Master Biology students can not select a major.

Due to the German version of Examination regulations as issued in the Official Announcements of the HHU is legally binding, we offer our students a convenience translation of the examination rules. Any claims to rights or titles resulting from the English translation of these regulations are expressly excluded.

Additional Qualifications M.Sc. Biology International

For all students of the current Examination Regulations, the modul "Additional Qualifications M.Sc. Biology International" consists of selectable courses, such as: lectures, field trips, practical courses, tutorials, seminars or workshops. At least two Master's seminars must be completed. At least one of these Master's seminars must be held in English.

Pilot Project and Project Outlines

The two-month module: "pilot-project and project-outlines" serves as a preparatory exercise for the Master's thesis. After its completion, a concept (project sketch) for the Master's thesis is to be drawn up. The concept will be checked by your supervisor but will not be graded.

Master Thesis

The Master's thesis is the scientific final paper of the Master's programme. This paper gives the candidate an opportunity to demonstrate that he/she is capable of working independently and scientifically on a major topic from his/her field of study and to present the results in a suitable format within a specified period of time. The assignment of a topic and academic supervision of the Master's thesis is to be made by a professor or an equivalently qualified scientific staff member who is working full-time at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. The Master thesis is an experimental work. The Master's thesis cannot be registered until all of the other modules have been successfully completed. The Master's thesis is to be written in English. Exceptions must be negotiated by the examination board and candidate. The finished Master's thesis must be handed in at the latest six months after the approval of the topic by the Academic Examinations Office. The Master's thesis must be registered at the Examination Office before. In general our master modules take place in a 6-week block and consist of 22-30 hours lecture and 200 hours practical course. In addition to the presence time your self-study will be counted (e.g.: protocol writing, exam preparation). Due to 1 credit point (CP) equals 30 hours of workload, a sucessful completion of the master modul will be credited with 14 CP. Details are given in the individual module descriptions (see below).
