Reasons for studying biology at HHU: approved high level of research and teaching, medium sized campus university, excellent library, central Student Service Centre (SSC), extensive language support, huge selection of sports activities (Student Union Sports), Travel Pass, good frameworks e.g: well-equipped laboratories and collaborations with other universities, institutes and companies.
No tuition fees
Being a public university, HHU receives funding from the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia and therefore does not charge tuition fees. Instead of paying thousands of dollars or pounds each semester, our students and doctoral researchers only pay a small fee of about € 230 each semester for student services such as the Student Union (AStA) and the Travel Pass.
Exzellent Research and Networking
The HHU is one of the strongest research universities in Germany in the field of biology. In addition to participating in Collaborative Research Centres, the subject of Biology has joined forces with the University of Cologne (UzK), the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) and the Research Centre Jülich (FZJ) to establish a cluster of excellence for plant research - CEPLAS.
In addition to the above-mentioned cooperation, the subject of biology has further cooperation in teaching and research with researchers from university hospitals, the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine IUF, the Max Planck Institute and the Diabetes Center (DDZ). Thus, the subject of biology is optimally networked with other institutes of the HHU and with institutions in the surrounding area. This gives you the opportunity to make initial contacts for a later graduation.
Individual supervision in research-orientated lectures
In your studies you will be taught by experts in their field. Due to the rising use of e-learning, you can expand your knowledge independent of time and space. More on eLearning you will find here: Mediathek. Through research-oriented modules you receive individual attention in small groups and get involved early on in the ongoing research activities.
