Welcome to the Institute of Plant Ecology

Our group investigates eco-evolutionary dynamics in natural plant populations and wild crop relatives. In particular, we focus on the responses of populations to ongoing climate changes such as drought and novel biotic interactions (i.e., phenotypic plasticity, evolutionary change, range shifts, etc.). To examine these themes, we combine traditional field- and greenhouse-based approaches with quantitative genetics and ecological genomics. In particular, we use the resurrection approach, that compares ancestors and descendants, to study rapid contemporary evolution and uncover the genetic basis of adaptive traits. Our research provides insights into the adaptive potential of populations in rapidly changing environments, helps forecast evolutionary rescue and range shifts, informs conservation efforts for native species, and contributes to crop improvement.
